About the Special Saturday Workshops

Special Saturday Workshops are a new Resource Stage seminar series designed to give ideas more room to breathe.

Rather than packing concepts into short sessions, these workshops slow things down. There is time to explore topics in depth, ask questions, see ideas demonstrated, and connect discussions back to real-world practice. The goal is simple: help participants leave with a clearer understanding and the confidence to apply what they have learned.

Workshop Overview

After a standout session at last year’s RS25 Conference, Kaileigh Krysztofiak returns to Resource Stage for a full-day lighting workshop that builds on the ideas many attendees wanted more time to explore.

Across three focused sessions, Kaileigh, joined by Carl Lukings, will walk through practical lighting design decisions that show up in everyday production work. The emphasis is on understanding why certain choices are made and how they affect what we see on stage.

This workshop is rooted in real productions, real constraints, and real design challenges.

What You’ll Explore

Throughout the day, sessions will focus on practical, production-driven topics, including:

Colour theory and palette building.

Lighting faces and shaping spaces.

Approaches to lighting different skin tones.

Making intentional equipment choices.

When and how higher-end fixtures make sense.

Getting more out of moving lights and advanced tools.

Each topic is supported with visual examples, discussion, and live demonstrations to help connect theory to practice.

Interactive Demo Areas

Following the workshop sessions, participants are invited to spend time in interactive demo areas set up in the Horizon Shop, featuring current theatrical lighting technology.

This optional portion of the day offers a chance to see ideas from the workshop applied in real time, explore equipment hands-on, and continue conversations in a relaxed setting.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is open to all experience levels.

It is well suited for lighting designers, technicians, programmers, students, educators, and production professionals who want to strengthen their design decision-making.

The slower pace of the day makes it accessible whether you are building foundational skills or refining an established practice.
